#NSE0086Hero MotoCorp, originally known as “Hero Honda,” is a prominent motorcycle manufacturer in India. The company began its journey in 1984 through a technological collaboration with Honda, Japan. Before venturing into the motorcycle industry, Hero was known for selling bicycles under the brand name Hero Cycles.

The collaboration with Honda significantly boosted Hero’s presence in the motorcycle market, making Hero Honda one of the most recognized and trusted brands in India. However, in 2011, the Honda group sold its 26% stake in the company to the Munjal family, who were the promoters of Hero Group. This marked the end of the joint venture (JV) between Hero and Honda.

Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest manufacturer of two-wheelers in terms of unit volumes sold by a single company in a calendar year, has maintained this leading position for over two decades. In 2024, the company offers seven models in its lineup.

The company has been expanding its retail presence aggressively, launching approximately 300 stores in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2024 (9MFY24) and plans to open over 100 more in the fourth quarter of FY24 (Q4FY24).

In terms of charging infrastructure, Hero MotoCorp has developed a robust network supporting its electric vehicle brand VIDA and Ather Energy. This network spans over 100 cities with more than 1,900 charging points. Additionally, Hero MotoCorp claims to have the largest charging network for two-wheelers in the country, with 850+ stations and 2,000+ charging points across 100+ cities.

Hero MotoCorp has also reactivated its operations in Nepal through a partnership with CG Motors, serving as its distributor in the country.

The company operates eight manufacturing units, with six located in India and one each in Colombia and Bangladesh. Hero MotoCorp’s research and development (R&D) capabilities are bolstered by two facilities, one in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and another in Munich, Germany.

  • Promoters: 34.76%
  • Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs): 28.93%
  • Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs): 27.76%
  • Public: 8.55%
